Experts discuss RTE Act implementation

Education experts from several states gathered here today to share their experiences on role of activity-based learning (ABL) in implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the country.Experts from states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Assam brainstormed over the issue at a workshop jointly organised by UNICEF and Gujarat’s Education Department.The landmark Act, pa*sed in 2009, provides for free and compulsory education to all children between 6-14 years.UNICEF has been working with states across the country in piolting and upscaling various versions of ABL.The programme is now reaching over three million children, a UNICEF statement said here.»ABL was being implemented in states on different scales and scenarios, and there was ample opportunity to learn from each other’s success and how to overcome challenges,» UNICEF chief for Gujarat Prakash Gurnani said.He asked the participants to combine computer-aided learning with ABL.
