Batting in cricket is one of the most important skills of the game.It requires exceptional hand-eye coordination, , power and technique.Drills must focus on skills important in real-game situations.Consistency is important. It takes many practice sessions to develop the coordination and power it takes to be a successful batter in cricket, but drills can improve your ability to bat and increase the likelihood you will score runs.
Gap Identification Drill Step 1
Set up the drill by having the defensemen in their standard position.Take your position as the batsman.
Step 2
Shuffle the fielders around the playing field and then have them stop.Have a bowler toss a ball toward your batting position.
Step 3
Identify quickly which area in the field has the widest gap between players before the ball crosses your path. You will not strike the ball as your focus is on readily identifying the gaps. You may progress this drill to actual hitting toward these gaps once you can identify gaps before the ball is halfway to your position.
Step 4
Shuffle the fielders around again and repeat for a total of 10 times.
Step 1
Set up the drill on a tennis court with a net.Place four cones in a square around the bowler and batsman. This distance can vary from session to session to better challenge coordination.
Step 2
Have the bowler toss a ball for you to hit.The thrower and you work together to hit the correct cone. This is different from how cricket games are played but will allow you to focus on coordinating the feet and bat to hit the ball at the desired angle and line.
Step 3
Adjust your position toward or away from the ball and your foot position to ensure you can hit the ball in the proper direction.Mirror the direction of the target you are trying to hit with your back foot.
Step 4
Hit the ball and aim it at one of the four cones. The key is hitting the ball with the correct amount of power and at the correct angle to hit the cone. The bowler will give you 12 balls to hit in total. The goal is to hit each target three times.
