Fantasy Leaps

Fantasy Leaps

I’ve been playing fantasy leaps.I’ve been imagining where I would go, if I were to go somewhere high and throw myself off. I like a lot of detail in my fantasies.

My first thought was the Hilton Tower in Manchester. It has the advantage o f being the highest building in the city.It can be seen for miles around. When my dad was in Salford I was able to use it to navigate back towards Manchester. I also have happy memories of it because my dad took me to Cloud 23 the cocktail bar on the 23rd floor for my birthday last year.I’ve no idea what made him do it, but it was amazing floor to ceiling windows with views across the city (the old Hacienda, home, canals etc). The problem is that access could be difficult the lift to the 23rd floor goes no higher and there are bouncers (or greeters). The hotel lift probably has some security.

My next choice is the Portland Tower. It’s not too glamourous, I teach on the 16th floor sometimes and have a key which would probably get me access to the roof. The 16th floor has quite a good view and nice coffee. It’s not as high as the Hilton Tower and it’s architectural merit is due to it’s contribution to the brutalist school.

This all seems to be very prosaic, for a fantasy leap it doesn’t have to be somewhere close with easy bus access. I’m thinking may be of somewhere more romantic.Somewhere outside, but it needs to be somewhere I can picture.Much of North Wales is too lumpy and bumpy but I don’t really know any cliffs.

This is cheering me up.
